HELPING YOUR PATIENTS ACCESS GRANT FUNDING.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

WHAT IS THE CHILDREN\u2019S LIFE FUND<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Children\u2019s Life Fund is a charitable fund that was established by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in November 2010 by Act of Parliament \u2013 Act No. 12 of 2010, with amendments in 2025.<\/p>\n

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE GRANT?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A person can access a grant where he\/she meets all the following criteria:
\u2022 a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago and is ordinarily resident in Trinidad and Tobago,
\u2022 unmarried and under the age of eighteen (18) years at the time of the application,
\u2022 referred by a medical specialist in the field of treatment required,
\u2022 in need of treatment that is unavailable at a local medical institution,
\u2022 diagnosed with a life-limiting illness (that is covered in the Act), and
\u2022 has medical expenses that exceed twenty-five (25%) percent of the income of his\/her family.<\/p>\n

THE MEDICAL SPECIALIST\u2019S ROLE IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Applications to the Children\u2019s Life Fund MUST be accompanied by a medical report from a referring medical specialist. The medical specialist also submits any images and clinical records that may be applicable for the clinical assessment of an application.<\/p>\n

Further to this, the medical specialist is involved throughout the case management process by providing:
\u2022 Feedback for questions related to clinical management which may be submitted by the CLFA or the approved international hospitals.
\u2022 \u2018Fit to fly\u2019 medical assessments.
\u2022 Support for clinical case conferences.
\u2022 Medical specialists are key partners who provide support for the CLFA\u2019s process case management process.<\/p>\n

THE AUTHORITY\u2019S ROLE IN PROCESSING & ADMINISTERING GRANTS<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Children\u2019s Life Fund Authority (CLFA) is the body bestowed with the responsibility to operate, manage, and administer the Children\u2019s Life Fund.
The CLFA ensures that all eligible applicants to the fund are carefully considered by a team of highly qualified Specialist Doctors to ensure that the \u201cBest Care Plan\u201d is determined and carefully executed.<\/p>\n

THE GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS<\/b><\/p>\n

Applicants can collect the application form from the CLFA\u2019s office at the Wendy Fitzwilliam Paediatric Hospital, Eric Williams Medical Complex, Trinidad & Tobago or download it from our website:  www.childrenslifefund.org.tt.<\/p>\n

Completed forms must be signed and submitted along with all the relevant documents.<\/p>\n

The Life Unit coordinates a clinical and financial assessment, and a recommendation is submitted for review.<\/p>\n

Once a decision is made the applicant is informed.<\/p>\n

If the application is approved the CLFA makes the relevant travel arrangements which include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Applying for the VISA for the child and 1 parent\/guardian<\/li>\n
  2. Booking the necessary flights<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Booking the accommodation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The CLFA makes the payment arrangements for treatment directly to the medical institution.<\/p>\n

    The patient is monitored and evaluated during treatment while abroad.<\/p>\n
